Moms are leaving the workforce during the pandemic

In September of 2020, a reported 865K women left the workforce in the US. Many of these women are caregivers and moms who felt they had no choice but to step away from work to keep their children's education on track and keep their family intact. In this episode, I share some stats, helpful resources I've found for you to gain support, learn skills, and gain hope for starting over with the flexibility to care for yourself and your family.

The pressure on parents is off the charts right now, but the burden on women is far more significant as we fill the role of primary caregiver and often earn less than our male partners. America was not, is not, prepared to support working parents. We cannot send our children to school for a full day, and many child care centers have reduced service or shut down completely. And given the pandemic's precautions, it's that much more difficult and expensive to hire a qualified, healthy caregiver, babysitter, or nanny to support us at home.

About

I had the good fortune to start the earliest parts of my life in a communal Christian environment. Growing up this way as a child of a single mother to three children I saw first hand the struggle of adults navigating power dynamics within the church and within smaller church groups. I noticed that adults had a tough time seeing the manipulation and duplicity that was so clear to me. In spite of or because of this I found myself on a path that connected me to a series of power struggles with narcissists at work and in romantic and family relationships.

I was stuck and wanted to break free of my situation and my repeating relationship patterns. When I finally did so I saw that many women were experiencing the very same things. I decided to explore this via my Audacious Life podcast where I interview survivors and experts on toxic relationships and how to manage, step away, and heal from them.

I then found myself a single mother with two children who also needed to heal from all that we'd been through. This healing process was the start of breaking away from the structure of a 9-5 job and creating my own work from home position creating social media, marketing videos, and morphing into personal branding and visibility and general content strategy.

I'm a creator at heart and love to write. I have a degree in film and feel alive working with audio/video with a powerful message that makes you think or inspires hope.

Restarting this channel after 5 years of status quo is scary but exciting at the same time. So happy to be here. Wish me luck!!
